I may be old fashioned since I grew up in a time before the computer and way before the internet but I just don’t hold an affinity to Digital Art being considered Fine Art. Don’t get me wrong, some of the works I’ve seen are very creative.
I realize it may take a certain skillset to create an illustration using software and possibly a pen tablet but usually the software comes with loads of filters to help digitally manipulate and enhance the illustration. I just think it is more a technical skill then an artistic skill.
I have yet to see any brick and mortar Fine Art Gallery accept digital pieces. I think art, especially fine art should be done in the same vein as past masters in Oil, Acrylic, Watercolor, Pen and Ink, or whatever medium that requires an actual artist to use their eye and hands to create a vision. Leave the Digital Art to Poster shops.
What do you think? Is Digital Art a form of Fine Art and should it be considered as such?
